Dum creates the illustration "Never Give Up" — two men digging a tunnel in search of diamonds. One gives up just meters from the treasure; the other, driven by hope and determination, keeps digging. The idea came while illustrating a chronicle about persistence.
Social media was still in its infancy — Dum's main platform was Orkut. He publishes the artwork on his personal blog. Shortly after, a friend tells him the image is being widely discussed by foreigners on an international forum. People from all over the world start sharing his creation.
The artwork becomes one of the most recognized motivational drawings on the planet. Printed on t-shirts, mugs, pillows, posters — sold everywhere. Dum earns absolutely nothing. His work is copied and distributed worldwide without a single cent or even a credit.
Dum discovers through Twitter/X that his illustration had become a "digital asset" in the hands of a stranger. After months processing it all, watching tutorials, and studying blockchain — he registers the original work with his name as the true author. A definitive end to years of uncredited use.
